A seven-year-old boy from West Bengal accidentally swallowed a 2 cm whistle while playing, leading to severe pneumonia due to airway obstruction. After an unsuccessful attempt at removal in a local hospital, the child was referred to Medicover Hospitals, Bengaluru, where pulmonologist Dr. Manjunath B.G. successfully extracted the whistle using advanced cryoprobe technology.
A Critical Case with Life-Threatening Complications:
The child had been experiencing a whistling sound while breathing and persistent coughing for several days. A CT scan revealed that the whistle was lodged in the right lower lobe of the lung, causing severe inflammation and infection. Attempts to remove the object using rigid bronchoscopy at a local hospital pushed it deeper, worsening the condition and leading to pneumonia. Upon arrival at Medicover Hospitals, Bengaluru, the patient was immediately assessed by Dr. Manjunath B.G., Pulmonologist. Considering the risk of further complications, the team decided against conventional rigid bronchoscopy and opted for a minimally invasive cryoprobe technique.
Procedure Details:
Bronchoscopy under Laryngeal Mask Airway (LMA) support was performed. Thick secretions were suctioned out, and granulation tissue was carefully removed. The foreign body (whistle) was identified and frozen using a 1.1 mm cryoprobe, ensuring safer extraction.
Team decided to intervention on trail with conventioal bronchoscopic removal . They found out that which was shoul impacted with wind pipe leading to failure to removal. They opted to use advanced rechnology 1.1mm croyoprobe ensuring safe extration .thik entration and blood when suction carefully removed
Following the procedure, the child made a full recovery and was discharged in a stable condition. The timely intervention prevented further lung damage and ensured a safe outcome.
