Doctors have cautioned that ignoring stomach pain assuming it to be a simple #gastric issue can sometimes mask the presence of a serious, life-threatening condition like a large tumor.
A 36-year-old patient, had been suffering from persistent abdominal pain for several days. Initially, he believed it was due to gastritis and began taking over-the-counter medications. However, as the pain continued without relief, he consulted Dr. Shaik Javed Hussain, Robotic Surgeon at Medicover Hospitals.Upon detailed evaluation, it was found that, the patient had a large pancreatic tumor measuring 12 x 10 cm located near the stomach region. Normally, pancreatic tumors are around 2 cm in size, but in his case, the tumor had grown significantly, causing prolonged discomfort.
Following CT and MRI scans, Endoscopic Ultrasound, the severity of the condition was confirmed, and a Robotic Distal Pancreatectomy plus Spleenectomy was planned and executed. The surgery, which lasted about six hours, was performed using advanced robotic technology and the tumor was successfully removed.Within four days, the patient showed remarkable improvement and was discharged in stable condition.
“What may seem like a common stomach ache can sometimes be a warning sign of a serious underlying condition. Early diagnosis and timely treatment can be life-saving,” emphasized Dr. Shaik Javed Hussain, Robotic Surgeon at Medicover Hospitals, Whitefield.
