PES Institute of Technology and Management (PESITM), Shivamogga, in collaboration with the Internet Society (ISOC), Bengaluru Chapter, successfully organized the Graduation Day Ceremony of the five-day Building Wireless Community Networks (BWCN) Bootcamp, held from July 13 to 17, 2026, at the PESITM campus.
The intensive bootcamp focused on key areas such as community networking, digital inclusion, online trust and safety, cybersecurity, and emerging wireless communication technologies. The programme aimed to equip participants with practical knowledge and hands-on experience to build sustainable and inclusive digital ecosystems.
Delivering the graduation address, Mr. Marian Pletosu, Senior Manager – Global Training and e-Learning Partnerships at the Internet Society (ISOC), highlighted the importance of extending Internet connectivity to the last mile. He emphasized that community networks play a vital role in bridging the digital divide and empowering underserved communities through inclusive access to the Internet. He also appreciated PESITM’s initiative in nurturing skilled professionals capable of implementing community-based networking solutions.

The ceremony was presided over by Shri B. Y. Raghavendra, Hon’ble Member of Parliament and Chairman of PES Trust (R), Shivamogga. Addressing the gathering, he reiterated his commitment to the Digital India Mission and announced plans to launch pilot community networking projects in six locations across his parliamentary constituency. He expressed his vision of ensuring reliable Internet connectivity from urban centres to the remotest villages and affirmed his willingness to collaborate with the Internet Society to achieve this goal.
During the event, Dr. Swamy D. R., Principal of PESITM, received a citation on behalf of the institution in recognition of successfully hosting the internationally supported BWCN Bootcamp and promoting digital inclusion initiatives. Notably, PESITM has also been recognized as an Academic Hub by the Internet Society (ISOC) Learning, marking a significant milestone in the institution’s academic journey.
The programme witnessed the presence of several distinguished dignitaries, including Dr. Shobha Shankar, President of ISOC Bengaluru Chapter; Mr. Adarsh B. U., Vice President of ISOC Bengaluru Chapter; Smt. Samita Sarkar, AGM, BSNL Shivamogga Division; Dr. Nagaraja R., Registrar of PES Trust; Dr. R. Sekar, Vice Principal of PESITM; and Dr. Vishnu V. M., Head of the Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering and Convener of the Bootcamp.
A total of 50 participants from various academic institutions and industries successfully completed the programme and were awarded graduation certificates.
Proposing the vote of thanks, Dr. Vishnu V. M. expressed gratitude to the Internet Society, PES Trust, resource persons, faculty members, volunteers, and participants for their contributions in making the bootcamp a grand success.
The ceremony concluded with cultural performances followed by the National Anthem. The successful organization of the BWCN Bootcamp and PESITM’s recognition as an ISOC Academic Hub stand as significant milestones in advancing digital literacy, community networking, innovation, and industry-oriented technical education, while strengthening global academic collaborations.
