In a bid to provide un-interrupted power supply to consumers and prevent shut down of power line during maintenance, Karnataka Power Transmission Corporation Ltd has procured Insulated Aerial Work Platform vehicles from Brazil for transmission line and substations up to 400Kv voltage.
The Karnataka Power Transmission Company Limited, #KPTCL has three such Insulated Aerial Work Platform vehicles operating in Bengaluru, Chitradurga and Hubli. Two more insulated vehicles will be allocated to Mysore and Gulbarga region.
These vehicles will enable uninterrupted power supply to consumers along with saving crores of rupees to KPTCL said Pankaj Kumar Pandey, Managing Director Karnataka Power Transmission Corporation Ltd.

Traditional Maintenance needs shutdown of the power line. The minimum time needed to restore the power is 5 hours post shutdown, there by causing inconvenience to consumers in the routine life and commercial activities. With the Hot (Live) Line maintenance technique, KPTCL intends to carry out the maintenance activity without shut down using state of the art tools like Insulated bucket van, insulated bucket, insulated scaffolding, thus not only ensuring the power supply to the consumers also keeping the ESCOMs financial position intact, Pankaj Kumar Pandey added.
KPTCL has identified l5 personnel’s and they have received professional training to operate and maintain the Insulated Aerial Work Platform vehicles bare hand maintenance.
As part of ensuring the power supply is uninterrupted, KPTCL MD Pankaj Kumar Pandey also visited the 220 KV Nelamangala plant and inspected the Insulated Aerial Work Platform vehicle at work and interacted with the KPTCL personnel.
