A 41-year-old man from West Bengal developed kidney failure after just 3 years of diabetes. To save her husband’s life, his wife donated her kidney, and doctors at Medicover Hospital successfully performed a kidney transplant, giving him a new lease of life.
Generally, kidney damage due to diabetes and hypertension occurs after 10–15 years. But in this rare case, Diabetic Kidney Disease was diagnosed from Kidney Biopsy within just 3 years. For the past 2 months, the patient had been undergoing dialysis three times a week.

Speaking about this case, Dr. Hareesha Babu, Senior Nephrologist at Medicover Hospital, said:
“Kidney damage due to diabetes usually occurs only after 10 years. But in this case, the patient developed kidney failure within just 3 years. This shows the importance of early detection and treatment. Regular check-ups lifestyle modifications & avoiding regular pain killer medication use without medical supervision can help prevent kidney damage.”
This successful surgery stands as a testament to the wife’s sacrifice and love for her husband, and the power of modern medical science.
