Shreeya Shines as Torchbearer of Tejaswini Subbarao’s Legacy
Smt.Tejaswini Subbarao, a renowned Bharathanatyam dancer, disciple of revered Guru, Karnataka Kalashree Smt Revathi Narasimhan, is a wonder woman who has carved a niche for herself in the field of Bharathanatyam, amidst a lot of challenges she has faced in life.
She runs the Vijaya Cultural Academy, named after her mother from over seven years imparting training in Bharathanatyam for several aspiring students. With a very sound grooming in the field from much sought after, reputed Senior Guru, Smt. Revathi Narasimhan, Founder of Natyaniketan, Smt. Tejaswini has accomplished several milestones in her multi-faceted career.
She has completed her Vidwat under Karnataka Board and is a graded TV artist. She has performed widely in many distinguished Sabhas, temples across India as a solo performer and also performed in the ‘Shivakami’ team of Natyaniketan. She is a recipient of many accolades, notwithstanding her meritorious accomplishments as a computer professional.
One of her promising disciples, young Kum Shreeya Gopinath, studying in Sri Kumarans Childrens’ Home, gave a wonderful Bharathanatyam performance under the aegis of Sampatthu, a premier non-profit organisation which runs an orphanage and promotes art forms like music, dance and Fine arts organising programs by both senior and upcoming artists for the benefit of its over thirty needy students at the orphanage, as well as general public and connoisseurs of art. The program was a part of its monthly cultural series held on the first Sunday of every month.
In a meticulously organised program at Sampatthu, Shreeya Gopinathcaptivated the full-house, with her graceful stage presence, impressive abhinayaand perfect nritta. She presented several compositions in a margam which included Pushpanjali, Mishra alaripu, Narasimha kouttvam of well-known mridangist-composer Vid. G. Gurumurthy, where she beautifully portrayed Narasimhavatar vividly depicting the contrasting characters Prahlada, Hiranyakashipu.
A unique raga-talamalika composition on Devi, Devi Amba, in praise of Goddess Parvathi was the main item which was presented with devotion and rhythmic precision. It is composed by famous nattuvanar, multi-percussionist Vid. D.V. Prasanna kumar, Sri Ramachandra kripalu bhajamana of Saint Tulasidas, some raptorous devaranamams of Sri Purandaradasa – Tattatha dimiki, Jaganmohanane krishna, were very expressive. She concluded her performance with a thillana in kanada. Fantastic choreography scores by Guru Revathi Narasimhan and Smt. Tejaswini were in the classic style of vazhuvoor Ramaiah Pilai.
Kudos to the great training by Smt. Tejaswini andthe immaculate arrangements by the proud parents of Shreeya, the program was a great visual treat. God bless Kum Shreeya with abright future to scale great heights in her chosen art form.
