A Hindustani classical vocal concert by renowned Gwalior gharana musician Pandit M.P. Hegde of Padigere will be held in Mysuru on August 16 as part of the 18th edition of the ‘Ninaada Griha Sangeeta’ concert series.
The programme will begin at 6 pm at ‘Ninaada’, Rishabh Siddhi Layout, Kergalli, Mysuru.
Pandit M.P. Hegde will present Hindustani classical vocal music, including khayal, thumri and tappa. He will be accompanied by Bhimashankar Bidanur on tabla and Pandit Veerabhadrayya Hiremath on harmonium.
About Pandit M.P. Hegde
Hailing from Padigere near Sirsi, Pandit M.P. Hegde comes from a culturally rooted family. He developed an interest in music under the guidance of his father and later underwent extensive training under veteran musician Pandit R.T. Hegde Shigehalli for several decades.
He secured first rank in the Karnataka Government’s Vidwat examination in 1979 and successfully completed the Sangeet Alankar examination conducted by Gandharva Mahavidyalaya in 1980. He has also been an All India Radio artiste.
Apart from khayal, Hegde is trained in thumri and tappa. His Gwalior gharana style is known for its expressive alaap, rhythmic precision, meend, simple and sapat taans, and presentation of bandishes that bring out the character of the raga.

He later came under the guidance of renowned Dharwad-based musician Pandit Chandrashekar Puranikmath, whose mentorship further enriched his musical journey.
Hegde has dedicated several decades to music and teaching. In 1981, he established the Sri Sai Sangeetha Vidyalaya, where he has been imparting music education to students for the past 45 years. Several of his students have gone on to perform across Karnataka and other parts of the country.
Accompanying artistes
Bhimashankar Bidanur, who will accompany Hegde on tabla, is a noted tabla artiste from Mysuru. He received his training at the Veereshwara Punyashrama in Gadag and has accompanied several well-known musicians.
Pandit Veerabhadrayya Hiremath, who will play the harmonium, is a senior musician, vocalist and teacher based in Mysuru. He trained under the renowned musician and saint Pandit Puttaraj Gawai and continues to teach music to interested students in Mysuru.
The programme is being organised with the participation and support of students of the Ninaada Music School, Kergalli.
