Gudinamana 2026, a distinctive classical music and dance initiative curated by renowned Carnatic vocalist Vidwan Pattabhirama Pandit under the banner of Rama Narayana Gurukulam, has completed its first anniversary, marking a significant milestone in its journey of bringing music, dance and spiritual traditions together at sacred temples and cultural spaces across India.

Conceived as a musical offering to the Guru Parampara, Gudi Namana is built around the idea of combining artistic excellence with kshetra gouravam (reverence for sacred places), local participation and opportunities for young and established artistes to come together. Over the past year, the initiative has travelled to several locations, presenting a diverse range of classical music, dance, devotional and educational programmes.

From temples to cultural spaces

The Gudi Namana series has been organised at several locations, including Nadagrama, Turuvekere, Manvi, JP Nagar in Bengaluru, Dattatreya Swami Temple in Bidadi, Shakti Ganapathi Temple in Bengaluru, Belagola, Vaaraahi Temple in Secunderabad, Hulimavu, Thyagaraja Swami Temple in Bengaluru, and several sacred locations in Gokarna.

The initiative has also established a special connection with Gokarna, where programmes were conducted at three sacred venues — Mahabaleshwara Temple, Mahaganapati Temple and Ashoke in Gokarna.

Speaking about the completion of the first year, Vidwan Pattabhirama Pandit said the milestone was the result of the collective efforts of everyone associated with the initiative.

“This achievement is a testament to the collective efforts of everyone involved. Gudinamana is a pioneering concept that brings together local artists, audience participation and kshetra gouravam, while also providing essential amenities and opportunities for artistic collaboration,” he said.

He added that the initiative offers students of the Gurukulam a valuable opportunity to interact closely with established artistes and learn from them.

“This initiative provides our students with a unique opportunity to engage personally with artists. We are on a journey to complete one mandalam for Gudinamana,” Pandit said.dk shivakumar led karnataka government 100 days celebration

Two-day musical celebration at Udupi Sri Krishna Mutt

One of the recent highlights of the Gudi Namana journey was a two-day programme held on August 28 and 29, 2026, at the iconic Rajangana of Sri Krishna Mutt in Udupi, under the auspices of the Siroor Paryaya.

The programme was held at the Sri Vamana Theertha Vedike and brought together leading artistes from both the Carnatic and Hindustani traditions, along with students and emerging performers associated with the Gurukulam.

August 28 was particularly significant as it coincided with Raksha Bandhan and Gayathri Japam. Sri Vedavardhana Theertha Swamiji of the Udupi Paryaya graced the occasion and blessed the programme. In his address, he highlighted the importance of cultural initiatives of this nature and spoke about the significance of Vedic recitation, japa, namasankeerthanam and musical presentations in sustaining India’s spiritual and cultural traditions.

Leading artistes grace the Udupi edition

The Udupi edition featured an extensive line-up of performances. One of the major attractions was a Veena-Mridangam duet by the popular musical couple Vidwan Y.G. Srilatha Nikshith and Vidwan Puttur Nikshith. The programme also featured a music ensemble, concerts by disciples of Rama Narayana Gurukulam and a vocal performance by well-known artiste Madhur Balasubramaniam.

The Hindustani tradition was represented by Pandit Krishnendra Wadikar, who presented a vocal recital.

The concluding performance on August 28 featured Vidwan Pattabhirama Pandit, accompanied by eminent violinist Smt. Charulatha Ramanujam on violin and Sri K.M.S. Mani on mridangam. Children of the Gurukulam also presented their performances, adding a special dimension to the evening.

The second day, August 29, continued the musical celebrations with performances spanning both Hindustani and Carnatic traditions.

Surmani Smt. Mahalaxmi Shenoy presented a Hindustani vocal recital, accompanied by Sri Rajesh Bhagavat on tabla, Sri Prasad Kamath on harmonium and Sri Pandurang Bhagavath on manjira.

Carnatic vocal performances were presented by Vid. Charulatha Ramanujam and Smt. Umashankari.

A special Tala Vadya presentation was led by Dr. Suresh Vaidyanathan on ghatam, showcasing the rhythmic richness of Indian classical music.

Another notable feature was a lecture-demonstration by Sri Aravind Hebbar, which offered audiences an opportunity to understand the artistic and technical dimensions of classical music.

The Udupi programme concluded with a grand violin duet by eminent violinist and musicologist Vidwan Vittal Ramamurthy and his son Srihari Vittal. They were accompanied by Sri Perivoli Jayabhaskar on mridangam and Dr. Suresh Vaidyanathan on ghatam.

The two-day event culminated in a collective musical offering at the lotus feet of Lord Krishna. All the concerts were also live telecast, enabling music lovers beyond Udupi to participate in the celebration.

Gudi Namana : Music in the presence of nature and tradition

Gudi Namana’s year-long journey has also taken classical music beyond conventional concert halls and into unique spiritual and cultural environments.

On July 25, 2026, at Bekal Gokulam Goushala in Kerala, the initiative presented Gavotsavam, a dawn-to-dusk concert series organised to commemorate Ashada Ekadashi.

The programme sought to bring together devotional music, classical dance and the serene surroundings of a sacred cow shelter. The event featured music recitals and classical Bharatanatyam performances, including performances by teams such as the Natyabhairavi Dance School.

The programme was held in the presence of Sri Vishnu Prasad Hebbar, eminent astrologer and founder of Gokulam Goushala, and Dr. Nagaratna Hebbar, co-founder.

Gokarna: A special chapter in the Gudi Namana journey

Gokarna has emerged as another important centre for the initiative. During May 2026, Gudi Namana organised a grand multi-artist tribute programme in collaboration with the Vishnugupta Vishwavidyapeetha (VVV).

The programme was held at three different sacred venues in Gokarna with the blessings of His Holiness Sri Raghaveswara Theertha Swamiji.Christ King

The events brought together artistes and music enthusiasts in a setting where the spiritual significance of the kshetra became an integral part of the artistic experience.

Connecting generations through music

A key feature of Gudi Namana is its emphasis on creating direct interaction between established artistes, local performers, students and audiences. Rather than functioning merely as a conventional concert series, the initiative seeks to create an environment where classical traditions can be experienced within the cultural and spiritual context of each location.

For students of Rama Narayana Gurukulam, the programmes provide opportunities to observe and interact with senior artistes closely. This exposure, according to the organisers, is intended to complement formal musical training with practical experience and direct engagement with performers.

The participation of local artistes and audiences is another important component, allowing every venue to retain its own cultural character while becoming part of the larger Gudi Namana journey.

A continuing musical offering

With programmes held across Karnataka, Kerala, Telangana and other locations, Gudi Namana 2026 has evolved into a year-long cultural journey connecting temples, sacred spaces, artistes, students and audiences through Indian classical music and dance.

From Gokarna and Udupi to Bekal and Bengaluru, the initiative has sought to make each programme a musical offering rooted in the spiritual identity of the venue.

As Gudi Namana moves towards completing its one-mandalam journey, its organisers are looking ahead to continuing the initiative with the blessings of the Guru Parampara and the participation of artistes and rasikas.

The first anniversary, therefore, is not merely a milestone for the series but a reflection of its larger objective — to celebrate India’s classical traditions while bringing music closer to sacred spaces, local communities and the next generation of learners.
