Singapore has advised its citizens in Indonesia to prioritise their safety and remain alert as the ongoing eruption of Mount Anak Krakatau (Anak Krakatau Eeruption) continues to disrupt air travel and affect parts of the country.
The Singapore Embassy in Jakarta issued the advisory on Monday, September 7, urging Singaporeans who have not yet done so to e-register with Singapore’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) so that they can receive assistance and updates during the ongoing volcanic activity.
Mount Anak Krakatau has been erupting since Friday, sending volcanic ash into the atmosphere and affecting areas across Indonesia. The ash cloud and associated safety concerns have disrupted flight operations at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport in Jakarta, as well as several other airports.
Singapore : Embassy warns of further flight disruptions
In a Facebook post, the Singapore Embassy said the situation remained “fluid” and warned that further disruptions to flight operations could occur at short notice.
The embassy advised Singaporeans in Indonesia to prioritise their personal safety, minimise outdoor activities and remain indoors whenever possible, particularly in areas affected by volcanic ash.
Travellers were also urged to closely monitor local news reports and official communications from the Indonesian government for the latest information. The embassy stressed that Singaporeans should follow instructions and safety advice issued by local authorities.
Anak Krakatau Eeruption : Travellers advised to check with airlines
Singaporeans whose travel plans have been affected by the eruption were advised to contact their respective airlines directly to obtain information about flight cancellations, delays, diversions and alternative travel arrangements.
The embassy cautioned that flight schedules could change at short notice depending on volcanic activity, ash conditions and operational decisions by airlines and airport authorities.
Travellers were also encouraged to contact their travel insurance providers to understand whether their policies cover losses, cancellations, delays or other expenses arising from the disruption.
More than 270,000 passengers affected
The scale of the disruption has been significant. According to Indonesia’s Transport Ministry, more than 270,000 people had been affected by flight delays, diversions or cancellations involving around 2,300 flights as of Monday.
Among the airlines affected were Singapore Airlines and Scoot, which cancelled flights operating between Singapore and Jakarta amid the disruption.

The ongoing situation has created uncertainty for passengers travelling to and from Indonesia, with airlines continuing to assess conditions and adjust schedules based on developments.
Singaporeans urged to monitor official updates
The Singapore Embassy further advised Singaporeans in Indonesia to continue monitoring updates from relevant Indonesian authorities, including the Centre for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG).
Travellers were encouraged to make appropriate arrangements with their airlines, hotels and other travel providers while keeping themselves informed about changing conditions.
The embassy’s advisory comes as authorities continue to monitor Mount Anak Krakatau and the spread of volcanic ash, with the potential for further disruption to air travel depending on the volcano’s activity and prevailing weather conditions.
