In a significant development, The High Court of Karnataka said that, Hijab is not essential practice of Islam and It upheld the state government’s mandate and said uniform was mandatory.
In its ruling today, the three-judge High Court bench said, We are of the considered opinion that wearing of Hijab by Muslim women does not form a part of essential religious practice in Islamic faith.

The prescription of school uniform is a reasonable restriction which students could not object to, the Karnataka High Court said while pronouncing its judgment in Hijab row case, adding, ”No case is made out for invalidating the Government Order of February 5.
The way, hijab imbroglio unfolded gives scope for the argument that some ‘unseen hands’ are at work to engineer social unrest and disharmony, Karnataka High Court in its order.
