Padubidre was resplendent with Brahmakalasha punarprathishtapana mahotsava and Rathotsava at the historic temple of Lord Mahalingeswara and MahaGanapathi ftom 23rd April to 5th May 2026. It featured a historic Hasiru horekanike procession, offering of food grains and vegetables.
The event was presided over by DrPrakash Shetty, President of the renovation committee, whose work in renovating the temple in a record time of just 11 months is a historic achievement.
It was flagged off by Dr. Rajendra Kumar, recipient of the Sahakara Ratna award. Dr.Deviprasad Shetty Belapu was the Chief convener of the Horekanike committee. Offerings and contributions poured in from various parts of Udupi district, including Kaup, Karkala, Byndoor, Kundapur, Hiriadka, Perdur, Mulki, Mangaluru, Bantwala, Surathkal, Ullal, Belthangady, Puttur. Unique offerings from moodabidri region led by Dr Mohan Alva, Kambala Organisers.
There was a special convoy of 99 vehicles from Kaup Hosamarigudi temple, a 100-vehicle procession led by Dr G. Shankar representing Mogaveera Mahasabha and Uchila Mahalakshmi temple. There were offerings from several other organisations like Navodaya grama vikasa charitable trust, Dharmasthala gramabhivrudhi project.
The glorious celebrations which spanned for over ten days was full of Cultural events,stage programs with distinguished guests and blissful ceremonies, with over thousands of devotees flowing in all day long, partaking in the beautiful festivities, delicious prasadams, musical feasts.
The sheer variety of Cultural events bears testimony to the rich cultural heritage of the South Canara belt.
Many eminent artists featured in the cultural events like famous playback singer Vijay Prakash, Bharathanatyam programs by several groups, dance drama Shiva charitham, Nrithya neerajanam by Smt. Lakshmi Gururaj and team, dramas in kannada, tulu like Raghu master, piravudu ori ulle, Padubidri puradodeyah AguPaddedra Ullaya.
The important forte of the region yakshagana was well presented. Sequences like Draupadi Pratapa by Mahalakshmi Mahila Yakshagana Mandali, Om Namah Shivaya, Yakshagana Tala maddale, yakshagana ekapatrabhinaya by Apurva Rao, Dr.S.P. Gurudas Acharya presented Harikatha. It was a devotional music galore. Artists like Kemmannu sisters, Bhumika and team and many bhajana Mandalis, gave a pleasant performance. Sangeetha Gana Sudha by Puttur Jagadish Acharya was impressive.
Interesting varietywere Tulasi naama sankeerthanam, kunita Bhajane, Fusion Sangitha Tarana, Carnatic Classical music concerts enthralled the huge audience. There were presentations by upcoming as well as senior artists including Vid. Vani Satish Rao, Kum. Chinmayi Bhat and Kum. Shashwathi Bhat, Vid. Shruthi Raj from Singapore, Gana Akhyana – Girija Kalyana by Jyothisha Vid. Sripati Upadhyaya Kumbashi, Alankara Vid.Sri. Ganapathi Bhat, Instrumental presentations were especially attractive. They included solo Violin by Kum. Ganga Shashidharan, Saxophone by Smt. Bharathi Gopal Shivapura and team.
The highlight of instrumental programs during Brahmakalasha Rathotsavam was Nadatarangam featuring Vid. Y.G Srilatha Nikshith on Veena, Vid Nishanth T. Rao on Violin, Vid. NikshithPuttur on mridangam, Vid. Shamanth Adiga on keyboard, Vid. Rajesh Bhagavath on Tabla and percussion, Vid. Balakrishna Bhat on morsing.
The entire concert presentation, choice of the lovely items which synchronised with the Rathotsava ceremonies took the audience to spiritual heights, particularly the scintillating performances of Bho Shambho, Shiva tandava, Mahaprana deepam.
