Amazon India today announced an expansion of health and insurance benefits for nearly 90,000 delivery associates across its operations network in India. The benefits provide Outpatient Department (OPD) coverage for routine medical expenses, hospitalization support for inpatient care, and compensation for temporary or permanent disabilities ensuring both immediate medical needs and income loss due to injury are covered. These benefits will be rolled out to associates across all last-mile programs. Mediclaim coverage will be increased up to ₹1.5 lakh, OPD expenses of up to ₹10,000 are now covered, and Group Personal Accident coverage has been expanded up to ₹10 lakh.
The wellness benefits cover associates and up to three family members annually, includes unlimited multilingual virtual doctor consultations and two free in-person OPD visits per family each year. Additional support includes discounts on diagnostics, pharmacy, dental and eye care, along with tools that encourage preventive health and fitness.
Amazon has also organised nationwide health camps, in collaboration with a third-party insurer, to provide free health check-ups to tens of thousands of delivery associates. The medical camps provide essential health services including eye examinations, dental check-ups, BMI assessments, and general physician consultations. Delivery associates can access these services by presenting a government-issued identity proof at any of the camps set up at Amazon’s last-mile delivery stations across India.
All of these initiatives are part of Amazons recently announced investment of over INR 2,800 crore (~USD 300 million) to further strengthen associate safety, health, and financial well-being, while continuing to scale one of the country’s safest, fastest, and most reliable logistics networks.
Salim Memon, Director – Operations, Amazon India, said: “As we continue to invest in our operations network, infrastructure, and frontline workforce across India, the safety and wellbeing of our delivery associates remain a top priority. We have expanded insurance coverage across OPD, hospitalization, and accident benefits to provide more comprehensive support, and are also rolling out nationwide health camps offering free check-ups and preventive care. These initiatives are part of our recent ₹2,800 crore investment to further strengthen associate well-being and scale our operations infrastructure across the country.”
As part of its broader focus on health and safety, Amazon continues to invest in targeted initiatives for its operations workforce. The medical health camps, which began for this year in March, have been conducted across delivery stations in six cities and will continue in both metro and Tier II cities. These camps focus on proactive health screening and heat-risk identification for delivery associates helping ensure a healthier workforce, especially during the summer months. In addition, the health and insurance benefits are designed to support both healthcare and financial protection for delivery associates.
How Amazon India supports the wellbeing of its delivery associates
Investment in safety and wellness – Amazon India recently announced that it will invest over INR 2800 crore (~USD 300M) to further strengthen associate safety, health, and financial wellbeing measures while scaling the country’s safest, fastest and most reliable logistics network. This investment is part of the company’s broader commitment to invest more than $35 billion in India by 2030, focusing on business expansion as well as three strategic pillars: AI-driven digitization, export growth, and job creation. Amazon will continue to expand both its core and quick commerce footprint to continue serving customers across India in minutes, hours, and days.
Project Ashray – A first-of-its-kind industry initiative, Ashray Centres are dedicated rest points for delivery associates across high-footfall locations, free for all associates regardless of which company they deliver for. These rest points offer air-conditioned seating, drinking water, electrolytes, washrooms, charging stations and first-aid kits for delivery associates. Amazon last week announced expansion of its network of Ashray centres to 250 in 2026, building on its current network of 100 centres. As part of this expansion, the company plans to open 50 new centres by the end of May.
Ambulance Services, Emergency Support & Associate Safety – Amazon India provides delivery associates with 24/7 emergency support, including no-cost ambulance services (in partnership with Dial 4242) with basic and advanced life support across 730+ cities, along with dedicated helplines and emergency assistance. This is reinforced by preventive wellness campaigns, mandatory pre-trip vehicle checks, and real-time weather alerts that enable measures like defensive driving training during monsoons and additional rest breaks in extreme heat.
Road Safety Training for Delivery Associates and Drivers – To mark National Road Safety Month, earlier this year, Amazon rolled out a nationwide road safety awareness and training programme, reaching hundreds of thousands of delivery associates, partners, and truck drivers across its last-mile and middle-mile operations. The initiative reinforced safer driving and riding practices through a mix of mandatory on-ground training and interactive learning sessions. The program focused on key aspects of everyday road safety, including helmet and seatbelt compliance, speed management, distraction prevention, emergency preparedness, and safe vehicle handling.
Pratidhi Scholarship – Pratidhi is Amazon India’s flagship scholarship programme aimed at expanding educational opportunity for the children of delivery associates and partners. Providing financial support for higher education, Pratidhi enables recipients to pursue undergraduate and postgraduate study across fields, lifting economic barriers and creating a pathway to expanded opportunity. Through Pratidhi, Amazon recognises the dedication of frontline delivery associates by investing in the next generation of India’s talent — reinforcing its long-term commitment to livelihoods and community uplift.
Inclusive policies – Amazon supports long-term wellbeing by providing menstrual leave, onsite medical and rest facilities, and sanitary pad dispensing machines across its fulfillment centers—advancing women’s health with dignity and care. For working mothers, access to daycare facilities enables continuity at work with confidence and balance. Amazon also invests in growth through upskilling opportunities that empower associates to pursue internal roles aligned with their interests, regardless of their current job assignment.
