Remembering the freedom fighters who fought against British rule, made immense sacrifices and secured independence for the country is the duty of every Indian, said B.Y. Raghavendra, Secretary of Swamy Vivekananda Vidya Samsthe and Member of Parliament from the Shivamogga Lok Sabha constituency.
He was speaking after hoisting the National Flag as the Chief Guest at the 80th Independence Day celebrations organized by Swamy Vivekananda Vidya Samsthe (R) and its affiliated institutions at the premises of Kumadvathi Central Residential School.
Raghavendra said India is a land of rich culture and has the potential to lead the world as a Vishwaguru. He called upon citizens to remember the sacrifices of the patriots who fought for the nation’s freedom and to uphold the values for which they struggled.

“The youth are the strength of the nation. Let us all join hands to realize the dream of a Viksit Bharat (Developed India),” he said.
The programme was attended by M.B. Shivakumar, President of the institution; Dr. Shivakumar G.S., Principal of Kumadvathi College of Education and Administrative Board Representative; Kuberappa, Administrative Coordinator; heads of all affiliated institutions; lecturers; school coordinators; teaching and non-teaching staff; trainees and students.
As part of the celebrations, students from various affiliated institutions delivered speeches highlighting the country’s freedom struggle and the sacrifices made by freedom fighters.
The programme commenced with a prayer song by Adhithri and group. Student Prarthana welcomed the gathering, while Chethan delivered the vote of thanks. Ameer Sultan compered the programme.
The celebrations concluded with a message to the students to uphold the values of patriotism, unity and responsibility and contribute towards building a stronger and developed India.
