The 150 years of National Song “Vande Mataram” was commemorated with great enthusiasm at the office of Divisional Railway Manager, Bengaluru, on Friday.
Officers and staff of the Bengaluru Division joined Divisional Railway Manager Shri Ashutosh Kumar Singh in the mass singing of National Song “Vande Mataram”.
As part of the commemoration, Vande Mataram was also played at railway stations across Bengaluru Division, inspiring a spirit of patriotism and unity among passengers and staff alike.
The event echoed the year -long nationwide observance announced by the Government of India to celebrate 150 years of the national song – a timeless composition by Bankim Chandra Chatterjee in 1875, captured the essence of the national awakening during the freedom movement and became a unifying call for independence.
Written by Bankim Chandra Chatterjee in 1875, Vande Mataram was later included in his novel Anandamath (1882). The song, which personifies India as the divine Mother, captured the essence of the national awakening during the freedom movement and became a unifying call for independence. It was first sung publicly at the Indian National Congress session in 1896, and on 24th January 1950, the Constituent Assembly accorded national status to its first two stanzas, adopting it as the National Song of India, complementing Jana Gana Mana, the National Anthem.
