In a significant development, Bengaluru South MP Tejaswi Surya meets DCM D.K. Shivakumar in his official residence.
In this regard, Tejaswi Surya, who has shared information on X (Twitter), Met with the DyCM and Bengaluru Development Minister DK Shivakumar discussed important issues relating to Bengaluru city’s infrastructure.
Highlights of the meeting:
1. Informed him that important positions of MDs of both K-RIDE and BMRCL have remained vacant for the last 5-6 months. The absence of full-time MDs, as I’ve constantly been highlighting, has hampered the progress of both these crucial infrastructure projects for the city. I urged him to immediately make the appointments for the benefit of these projects. He assured immediate steps on both the requests.
2. In 2019, I had proposed a skywalk between Banashankari Metro Station and Banashankari BMTC Bus Terminal so as to enable a multimodal transport hub. The design of the skywalk was also decided in 2019 itself. Requested him to expedite this project. He assured action on this.
3. Phase III of #NammaMetro was approved by the State Government previously. However, a revised DPR is now pending submission to @MoHUA_India for Cabinet approval. Requested for early submission of the same so that the project would get approved & the work could commence forthwith. Every day’s delay will hamper the ease of living for millions of people of Bengaluru.
4. Requested him to consider building a multi-level fly-over over the same route along with the Metro Phase – 3 which would effectively expand the carriage capacity of the road from Vega City Mall to Nayandahalli.
5. I urged him to consider underground cabling of the 66 kV overhead EHT lines in Hosakerehalli in my constituency as the overhead electric lines are creating problems for the residents, including children, who belong to low-income groups in this area. He promised action.
6. We discussed his proposal of building tunnel roads in Bengaluru. I suggested that the idea of mass rapid transit train systems instead of tunnel roads must be encouraged as traffic congestion is never addressed by building more roads. Mass rapid transportation systems like Metro trains are the only solution to reduce traffic congestion. More roads is not the solution for addressing traffic congestion. I urged him to invest public money on mass rapid transport systems instead of tunnel roads to benefit a larger population of Bengaluru. He assured that he will consider my suggestions before taking a final call.
Bengaluru needs bipartisanship for solving its pressing issues. I am happy that DCM took my suggestions positively and assured action. I will constantly keep following all of these important issues of our city to ensure it’s quick completion.
