In a commendable display of vigilance and integrity, the Government Railway Police (GRP) and Railway Protection Force (RPF) at Birur successfully recovered and returned a lost vanity bag containing gold ornaments and cash worth over ₹19.08 lakhs to a lady passenger on Friday evening.
The incident occurred on 13 March 2026, when Smt. Roopa L, a resident of Tarikere, realised that she had accidentally left behind her vanity bag in the General Second Class (GS) coach of Train No. 16205 Talguppa – Mysuru Express after alighting at Tarikere station.
Distressed by the loss, she immediately informed the on-duty GRP staff at Tarikere. Acting promptly, the information was relayed to the next major halt, Birur, where the security team was alerted to intercept the coach.
When the train arrived at Birur at 18:00 hrs, ASI Shri Naveen and Head Constable Shri Maruthi B (HC/809), equipped with Body Worn Cameras for transparency, boarded GS Coach No. 154322 and successfully located the unattended bag. The recovered bag was then taken to the GRP Office at Birur for safe custody.

Later that evening, Smt. Roopa, accompanied by her husband Shri Yogisha B, arrived at the GRP Station, Birur. After verification of her identity and confirmation of the contents, the recovered valuables were handed over to her under proper acknowledgement.
The couple expressed heartfelt gratitude to the GRP and RPF staff for their prompt and professional assistance. Smt. Roopa also shared her appreciation on social media, praising the dedication and integrity of the railway security personnel.
The commendable work carried out by the GRP and RPF personnel at Birur has been widely appreciated by passengers and senior railway officials, reaffirming the commitment of railway security forces towards ensuring passenger safety and trust.
