An elderly woman and her pet dog were found dead in a decomposed state inside a house in Shivamogga city on Saturday.
The incident occurred at a residence on 1st Cross, Ravindranagar. The deceased has been identified as Prabhavathi (aged around 57–60), who was living alone. Police suspect that she may have died nearly 15 to 20 days ago.
According to locals, Prabhavathi had last been seen after taking food from a nearby canteen a few days earlier. Concern arose after a foul smell began emanating from the house, prompting neighbours to alert authorities.
Upon receiving the information, personnel from the Jayanagar Police reached the spot and found the woman’s body in a decomposed state. Her pet dog, which was inside the house, was also found dead.
Prabhavathi is survived by two daughters—one residing in Shivamogga and the other in Bengaluru. She was the wife of late Nagaraj, former owner of the ‘Janavarte’ newspaper. Preliminary suspicion suggests that she may have died due to illness.
The incident falls under the jurisdiction of the Jayanagar Police Station, where a case has been registered and further investigation is underway.
