An Indian Air Force (IAF) Antonov An-32 transport aircraft crashed while attempting to land at the airbase in Jorhat, Assam, on Saturday.
Confirming the incident, defence PRO Lt Col M. Rawat said, “IAF AN-32 crashes while landing at Jorhat air base. Losses are being ascertained.”
According to initial reports, the aircraft went down within the Air Force Station परिसर and caught fire following the crash. Emergency response teams were immediately deployed to the site to control the blaze and assess the situation.
The cause of the crash is yet to be determined, and details regarding casualties or injuries remain unclear. The Indian Air Force stated that further updates will be shared after a complete assessment.
An investigation has been initiated into the incident.
The crash comes months after a tragic accident involving a Sukhoi Su-30MKI in Karbi Anglong district of Assam, in which two IAF pilots lost their lives. The fighter jet had taken off from Jorhat Air Force Station on March 5 for a routine sortie before losing contact with ground control and eventually crashing in a remote hilly area about 60 km from Jorhat.
Further details on the AN-32 crash are awaited.
