As a part of the festival there was a spectacular jugalbandhi concert by the very reputed duo Vid. Dr. Vijaygopal on flute and Vid. Mylai Karthikeyan on Nadaswaram.
Dr. Vijaygopal is a highly accomplished flautist who has enthralled audience across the globe. An ‘A’ grade artist of All India Radio, Chennai and ICCR panel member, recipient of several awards, Vijaygopal’s dexterity and playing techniques are amazing. He can reach out to much more than the two and a half octaves which a normal flute can produce.
They gave an excellent performance at Gayanasamaj. After a spectacular Natakuranjivarnam, ‘vinayakaninuvina’of Sri E.V. Ramakrishna Bhagavathar, in Hamsadwani, Aditalamwas enriched by a splendid swaram.
Dwijavanthiragam and Sri Muthuswamy Dikshithar’s Akhilandeswari on the deity of Jambukeswarar temple, Thiruvanaikaval was divine. Sarasangi was appealing with wonderful dhatu and jantiswara prayogams and a soothing composition of Sri Ramaswami Shivan, ‘Neekeladayaradu’.
The pallavi was composed by the artists in aditalam, dwikalai and presented in trikalam, trisram and variations. Ragamalikaswarams kept audience in anticipation, and had a lovely garland of ragas Bindumalini, Kapi, Mohanakalyani, Kalyanavasantha.
Thaniavartanam by Mridangam exponent Sri Puttur Nikshith, disciple of Mannarkoil J Balajand Ghatam virtuoso Sri Trichy Krishnaswamy disciple of Thanjai V. Srinivasan and Vid. Sri.B. Harikumar, was very inspiring and the dialogue between the two instruments was delightful. Concert concluded with some lilting items Govardhana Giridhari in Darbarikanada, thillana in behag and famous thiruppu ghazhverse amudamooru in sindhu bhairavi. A great concert to cherish for long.
