Non-communicable diseases that were earlier seen mostly after the age of 60 are now appearing among people in their 40s, particularly after the COVID-19 pandemic, said noted neurologist Dr. Sushrutha Gowda stressing the need for greater attention to heart and brain health.
He was speaking at a free health check-up and consultation camp held on Thursday in the city. The programme was organised by S.M. Krishna Memorial Neuro Zone and the Print Journalists of Mysuru, in association with New Med Diagnostics
“Non-communicable diseases are spreading rapidly. To tackle them, society must adopt healthier lifestyle changes,” Dr. Gowda said.
He added that good health is essential to cope with the pressures of modern life and that several new health challenges have emerged after the COVID-19 pandemic. Regular medical check-ups help individuals understand their health condition better, he noted.
“Our goal is to build a healthier society,” he said.
Inaugurating the programme, Dr. N. Chandrashekhar of Aditya Hospital said society should support positive changes that promote better health.
Senior journalists H.S. Dinesh Kumar and T.R. Satish Kumar also spoke on the occasion.
