Sounds of melody at Madhuradhwani

Madhuradhwani, one of the premier centre for Carnatic music in Chennai isa great initiative by Sri Arkay Ramakrishnan (A.S. Ramakrishnan), an organiser par excellence.

He has made Arkay convention centre a Temple of music, where music performances happen throughout the year. Not only Senior frontline artists perform, a number of  youth talents are identified and opportunities are created, inspiring the younger generation to take up the art form with confidence and enthusiasm. An award “Carnatic Trend Setter” has also been Instituted to recognise promising young artists.

The music concert series is a riveting blend of both instrumental and vocal presentations. Theconcerts are free and also webcast making them reachable across the globe. 300+ concerts are organised annually along with a host of events like monthly thematic concerts, lecturedemonstrations, commemorative programs, religious discourses. December music season is a real feast with series of concerts all day long, spanning almost 6 weeks.
Sri Ramakrishnan’s inspiration and interest in music  and organising was kindled by his father Sri.A.Sivaswamy Bhagavathar, a violinist and Guru at Krishnagiri.

Coming from finance background, Sri Ramakrishnan was previously in stock trade and converted his office into the Arkay Convention Centre auditorium in 2010. Nothing is impossible for one whose goal is paramount!! Located in the cultural hub of Mylapore, the hall is well equipped with wonderful acoustics, a lovely ambience.and attracts huge audience.

2024 marks the fourteenth anniversary of the Centre. To date more than 4500 concerts have been organised. During 2024 December music season alone, it has hosted over 150 concerts introducing several new talents apart form many Senior artists.
The inaugural concert was by Padmabhushana, Sangeetha Kalanidhi Sri Madurai T.N. Sheshagopalan. Colorful events including concerts by several eminent artists, morning sessions under ‘shruthi and music forum’ featuring lecture demonstrations, – Mela 2024, ‘namsankeertanam’ were audience’ delight.

Arkay Ramakrishnan is a true inspiration for Organisers and connoisseurs of music. May the fraternity of such motivators expand.Let the sounds of melody linger for ever.
