The Mysuru Division of South Western Railway (SWR) launched the Swachhata Hi Seva (SHS) 2026 campaign on Thursday, September 17, with a focus on cleanliness, public participation and responsible waste management. The campaign will continue until October 2, 2026, with a series of cleanliness drives, awareness programmes, educational visits, rallies and voluntary cleanliness activities planned across the division.
The campaign was formally inaugurated at the open-air auditorium of the Divisional Office, where Shri Mudit Mittal, Divisional Railway Manager, Mysuru, administered the Swachhata Pledge to the participants.
Shri Shammas Hameed, Additional Divisional Railway Manager, along with senior divisional officers, railway employees and contract staff, participated in the launch programme. As part of the initiative, Shramdaan, or voluntary cleanliness activities, was also undertaken at various locations.
SWR : Activities across Mysuru Division
As part of the SHS 2026 campaign, a range of activities have been organised across the Mysuru Division, covering Mysuru, Ashokapuram, Sakleshpur, Davangere, Shivamogga, Harihar and Arsikere.
The activities include Swachhata Pledges, cleanliness drives, awareness programmes, educational visits and awareness rallies aimed at encouraging people to take greater responsibility for maintaining clean public spaces and managing waste properly.
Students visit waste management facility in Mysuru
In Mysuru, students of Lalitha School participated in an awareness programme on the Solid Waste Management Rules, 2026.
Around 50 students visited the Solid Waste Management Facility located at the Mysuru New Goods Terminal Yard. During the visit, the students were briefed on various processes involved in scientific waste management and the importance of proper segregation and disposal of waste.
The students also visited the Linen Care Centre, where they were familiarised with linen-care and management processes. They were also given information about the functioning of the Effluent Treatment Plant (ETP) and the treatment of wastewater before its disposal.
Transportation assistance for the students was provided by RPF/Mysuru.

Awareness programme and rally at Ashokapuram
At the Government High School, Ashokapuram, awareness sessions were conducted for schoolchildren on solid waste management, with particular emphasis on four-way source segregation.
The students were encouraged to segregate waste at the source and adopt responsible waste-disposal practices. A Swachhata Pledge was also administered to the students as part of the programme.
A Swachhata awareness rally was subsequently organised through the CWS/Mysuru Main Gate and Ashokapuram Railway Colony, spreading messages on cleanliness and responsible waste management among residents and the public.
Waste management awareness at Davangere Railway Station
At Davangere Railway Station, awareness and demonstration sessions were organised for schoolchildren on various aspects of solid waste management.
The sessions focused on four-way source segregation, avoiding single-use plastics and encouraging passengers to carry and use reusable water bottles while travelling.
A separate passenger awareness rally was also conducted at the station. Passengers were sensitised about the importance of segregating wet waste, dry waste, sanitary waste and special-care waste.
As part of the programme, the Swachhata Pledge was administered to railway staff by the Assistant Divisional Engineer (ADEN), Inspector of Railway Protection Force (IPF) and Station Manager (SMR)/Davangere.

Swachhata Pledge activities were also conducted at Sakleshpur, Shivamogga, Harihar and Arsikere. Similar programmes were organised at the respective railway health units, involving railway personnel and other stakeholders.
The activities are intended to reinforce the importance of maintaining hygiene and cleanliness not only within railway premises but also in the surrounding communities.
Focus on public participation
The Swachhata Hi Seva 2026 campaign seeks to encourage railway employees, contract staff, students, passengers and members of the public to actively participate in cleanliness initiatives.
The campaign also aims to promote responsible waste-management practices, particularly segregation of waste at source, reduction in the use of single-use plastics and adoption of environmentally responsible habits.
Through awareness programmes and practical demonstrations, the Mysuru Division is seeking to create greater awareness among passengers and the public about their role in keeping railway premises clean.
Appeal to passengers and public
The Mysuru Division has appealed to passengers and members of the public to actively participate in the Swachhata Hi Seva 2026 campaign and contribute towards maintaining clean and environmentally friendly railway stations, trains and railway premises.
The campaign, which will continue until October 2, 2026, aims to strengthen collective participation in cleanliness initiatives and encourage the adoption of sustainable and responsible waste-management practices across the Mysuru Division.
