Senior BJP leader and noted neurologist Dr. Sushruth Gowda has sharply criticized Congress leader Rahul Gandhi for his recent statement claiming that “10% of the population controls the Indian Army.” Dr. Gowda said the remark is highly irresponsible and a misuse of the freedom of speech granted by the Constitution.
He stated that such comments not only distort the truth but also demean the honour, unity, and sacrifice of the nation’s armed forces.
“The Indian Army is the pride of our nation. It stands above religion, caste, and politics. To claim that 10% of the population controls the Army is a deep insult to every soldier who serves with dedication and patriotism,” Dr. Gowda said.
Dr. Gowda demanded that the Congress leadership clarify Rahul Gandhi’s statement and take responsibility for the damage it may cause.
He further stated: “Our soldiers risk their lives every day to protect the nation. Such loose and baseless remarks are unacceptable. Rahul Gandhi must immediately apologize to the armed forces and to the people of India.”
Calling it dangerous politics, he accused Rahul Gandhi of dragging the Army into political controversies for gain in election.
“The sacrifices of the Army cannot be measured. The institution exists solely for national security—not for any caste, group, or political interest. Using it for political advantage is a betrayal of the nation,” Dr. Gowda said.
He also criticized Rahul Gandhi for making allegations of “vote theft,” calling them unfounded.
“Unable to find real issues against the Central Government, Rahul Gandhi is trying to create unnecessary controversies. Defaming the Election Commission is not appropriate for a national leader. It is time for him to introspect,” Dr. Gowda added.
