SAMPATTU, an orphanage at Narayananagar, run by an NGO, Bharatha Seva Sangha, is doing yeomen service for under- privileged male children, providing them food and shelter, as well as a holistic environment for their all-round development. SAMPATTHU promotes art and culture and organises monthly music and dance programs. The students of the orphanage actively participate in all the cultural activities organised by the centre.
During the month of June, a vocal duet concert was performed by Ganashree sisters. They were accompanied on the violin by Nishanth Rao and and on the Mridangam by Pranav Rao.
Ganashree sisters, Kum.A. Shriya and Kum.A. Aarya , two young upcoming talents, took audience to a pleasant world through their lilting voices, impressive selection of items and ease of presentation of even rare ragas like swarabhushini, Vallabhi, classic ragas like Bhairavi, Arabhi, Kalyani, professional rendering of lighter devotional numbers.
The accomplishments of these young artists is commendable, deserve all appreciation and encouragement. Shriya, who is into her first year degree in Bio – Technology is also a Bharathanatyam dancer and has completed her Arangetram. Aarya is a ninth grader, composes songs. Trained by their mother Vid. Sreelakshmi Anand who is herself an accomplished musician, the duo are sure to scale great heights in the field of Carnatic music. The equally talented young accompanists Sri Nishanth and Sri Pranavare doing very well academically as well and gave a valuable support in the concert.
The youngsters commenced their concert with the popular Navaragamalika Varnam, continued with Sri Saraswathi of Muthuswamy Dikshithar in Arabhi with crisp swaras. Lalithe sripravriddhe by Sri Thyagaraja in Bhairavi was neat. Then came the unusual items, Varadaraja ninnu kori in a rare raga swarabhushini, a krithi in praise of Lord Varadaraja of Kanchipuram also composed by Sri Thyagaraja, Amba paradevathe, a composition of Sri Krishnaswamy Ayya in raga Rudrapriya, a rich raga, janya of Kharaharapriya.
As the main rendition they chose Sundari nee divyarupamu, famous composition of Sri Thyagaraja in praise of Goddess Tripurasundari of thiruvottiyur, in raga Kalyani, set to Adi talam. This was followed by beautiful swaraprasthara well supported by Nishanth on violin. The thani avarathanam by Pranav was well-knit. Gopala gokula vallabhipriya, a beautiful devotional hymn written by saint Tulasidas, set to music by Dr.M. Balamurali krishna in another rare raga, Vallabhi, his own creation, was pleasing.
An interestingly tuned composition of Sri Purandaradasaru Manava nilisuvudu balu kashta, in raga Natakuranji was beautifully presented. Pibare Ramarasam of Sadashiva brahmendra in Ahirbhairav and concluding Brindavani Thillana of Dr. M. Balamurali krishna were appealing. The artists received huge applause and impressed one and all. When the concert concluded after an hour and a half audience seemed to be waiting for more!
