Republic day was celebrated differently with grandeur by Mahabala LalithaKala Sabha, Puttur which organised a grand music concert by Vid. Saketharaman.
Sri Saketharaman, is the disciple of Padma bhushan, Sri Lalgudi G. Jayaraman, He has also learnt ftom Smt Geetha Raja, Sri. Nagai Muralidharan. He is pursuing voice culture and Hindustani music ftom Sangeetha Kalanidhi Sri T.V. Gopalakrishnan.
He is a multi-faceted musician, performer, composer, organiser, teacher and many more. Endowed with a beautiful voice, which can traverse the three octaves effortlessly, he gave an exclusively exhilarating concert accompanied by an excellent team.
He beganthe concert with acompositionof his Guru – varnam, Neevegathiyani in Nalinakanthi. Devaranamas of Sri Purandaradasa were presented in the concert. ‘Jaya janakeekantha’ in Natai, Khanda Chapu, at the beginning, was inspiring. Swaraprastharam at “Dasharat Atmaja” was creative, developing lovely patterns from each charana of jagadhanandakAraka, An equally beautiful rendering on violin by the eminent violinist, Dr. Nishanth Chandran, set a lively tempo for the concert.
Hamsanandhi was handled immaculately by the duo, with amazing tonal quality, absorbing alapana, effortless grahabhedhamand was followed by devotional rendering of ‘Pavana Guru’, famous composition on Lord Krishna by Sri Lalitha Daasar, in rupakatalam. Nerval at “smarashathashubha kAkAramniravadhikarunapUram”, swaras in various nadais and poruttam were electrifying. Sri Muthuswami Dikshitar’s melodious Annapurne in Sama and abrisk ‘Yare rangana’ in hindolam followed.
Main presentation, Sri Thyagarajar’s Mohana Rama, in Mohana, Aditalam, with lovely alapana and swara prastharam was characteristic of the sublime manodharma of the artists. An inspiring thaniavarthanam by the eminent senior Guru, Mridangam exponent Sri Mannarkoil J. Balaji and Ghatam Vidwan Udupi Srikanth from Kerala, enthralled the full house.
RTP in raga Desh, showed the remarkable expertise of the artists in rendering raga, thana in a raga like desh which has many allied ragas liketilakKamod, Kapi, Khamach, etc. and requires skill in handling. Sri Saketharaman isnoted for composing unique pallavis, He presented one such pallavi for the occasion, (one could call ita “bhAshamAlikai”), with raga malikaswaras, “Deshas Evaiseyyavaa nee ulaghil“(tamil), in desh, “Deshas EvaseyyadAnikinee prapanchakirAndi” (telugu) in Saveri, “Deshas EvemAdalujagattigebanni” (kannada), in Khamach, ‘Deshasevaichaiyunulokatthilvarukka, (Malayalam) in Revathi, concluding with Swaras in reverse order of ragas were testimony to ingenious mastery of the artists. A pleasant “Innu dayabarade’, in Kalyanavasantha, Khanda Chapu was presented next. Fitting finale was athillana by his Guru in Maand, AdiTalam.
