The Carriage Repair Workshop (CRW), Hubballi of South Western Railway observed National Safety Week 2026 on 13/03/2026 with enthusiasm to promote awareness on workplace safety, health and environmental protection among employees.
Shri Vijay Singh Yadav, Chief Workshop Manager, UBLS, graced the programme as the Chief Guest. Shri Ravindranath N. Rathod, Joint Director of Factories, Karnataka, attended as the Guest of Honour, while Ms. Chinmayi Toragal, Assistant Director of Factories, Hubballi Division, participated as the Special Guest.

The programme aimed to enhance awareness on workplace safety practices and the importance of proper use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). A Workplace Safety Gallery was also set up showcasing various safety measures and best practices followed in the workshop.

The event was organized by the Safety Department under the leadership of Shri Srinivas Sadashiv Bellary in coordination with the Civil Defence team under the guidance of Shri Ashok Kumar G., ACMT/UBLS and Shri Ramesha H. K., Factory Manager & Dy. CWM (P&P)/UBLS.

During the programme, the Civil Defence team demonstrated important life-saving techniques related to fire-fighting, first aid and rescue operations to help employees effectively respond during workplace emergencies. A large number of workshop employees witnessed the demonstrations and benefitted from the awareness and hands-on learning.
Addressing the gathering, Shri Vijay Singh Yadav emphasized that safety must be an integral part of daily work practices, particularly in workshops dealing with heavy machinery and mechanical operations. He appreciated the safety initiatives implemented in the Hubballi workshop, including the Permit to Work system for contractors, safety orientation programmes, provision of PPE and regular inspection and certification of equipment in compliance with the Factories Act and Karnataka Factories Rules.
The workshop has also strengthened emergency preparedness through facilities such as a dedicated ambulance, Civil Defence training for staff and periodic mock drills. Regular environmental monitoring of noise levels, air quality and Effluent Treatment Plant water is also being carried out to ensure a healthy workplace environment.

As part of Safety Vision 2026, several initiatives have been planned including Hazard Identification and Risk Assessment (HIRA), strengthening of the On-Site Emergency Plan, comprehensive safety audits, fire load assessment and structured safety training programmes for employees.
The theme for National Safety Week 2026, *“Engage, Educate and Empower,”* was highlighted as a guiding principle for building a strong safety culture. The dignitaries appreciated the efforts of the Safety Department and staff for organizing the programme and promoting safety awareness. Various competitions and awareness activities were also conducted during the week to encourage employee participation and strengthen safety consciousness in the workplace.
