MA Narasimhachar foundation in collaboration with Ananaya GML Cultural Academy, organised an Vocal concert by Vid. Surabhi Sheshadri, as a part of their Silver Jubilee year Celebrations.
Smt. Surabhi, a B-High graded vocalist of All India Radio and trained under Vid. M. Gopalakrishna, Vid. Suma Venkatesh, Vid. Smt. Koviladi Kala and presently under, Smt. Jaya Subramaniyen, has performed widely at various prestigious Sabhas, across India including Chembur Fine Arts, Shanmukhamanda Sabha, Charlotte Swathi Thirunal Sangeetha Sabha, Rasika Ranjini Sabha. She is a recipient of the CCRT Scholarship and is also an acclaimed Bharathanatyam dancer.
Smt. Surabhi presented a beautiful concert at Ananya Sabha with a wide spectrum of composers in her choices which included Varnam, Chalamu seya in Valaji by Lalgudi Jayaraman, Pranamamyaham in Gowla by Mysore Vasudevacharya, Parama purusha in Vasantha of Maharaja Sri Swathithirunal, Sarasamukhisakalabhagya, which was popularised by the musical legend, Sri Madurai Mani Iyer in Goudamalhar, a pretty krithi by Sri Mutthayya Bhagavathar.
Elaboration of raga Charukeshi was lovely. Adamodi galade of Sri Thyagaraja was followed by neat swaras. The highlight of the day was an immaculate presentation of Simhendramadhyama, Ninne nammitinayya of Sri Mysore Vasudevacharya in Mishra Chapu withlovely nerval and swaraprastharam. Guruvara mahimala in Anandabhairavi by Walajpet Venkataramana Bhagavatar, a rarely heard song in praise of Thyagaraja, Karunai daivame in Sindhubhairavi by Madurai T Srinivasan were pleasant.
Abhangs are devotional pieces mostly composed in Marathi by Saints like Tukaram, Namdev, Jnanadev, Jinabai. It was sung in praise of Vitoba in Maharashtra earlier, now it is quite popular in Carnatic concert stages. The catchy style of its presentation makes one carry back a spiritual mood. Thirtha Vittala of Sant Namdev presented by the artist created an impact on the audience who attended in large numbers. The concert concluded with Thillana in Mohanakalyani by and Maithreem bhajata by His Holiness Sri Chandrashekara Saraswati Swami.
Smt. Surabhi was ably accompanied by Vid. Sri Amogh Nadadur on Violin and Vid. Anghiras Mahadevan on Mridangam.
