Puttur, which is a small town in the picturesque South Canara belt, has transcended into a Cultural hub through many  dedicated organisations like Sri Mahabala Lalitha Kala Sabha. Mahabala Lalitha kala Sabha was founded by Dr. Sriprakash,  in 2016. It is a non-profit cultural organisation, based in Puttur, Karnataka,  dedicated to promoting classical arts, music and dance.   Regularly, the Sabha hosts  music, dance and  other cultural programs and workshops, creating a cultural ambience in the region under the leadership of the multi-faceted personality, Dr.Sriprakash, who is a well-known dentist by profession.

Recently,  Sri. Mahabala Lalitha kala Sabha hosted a wonderful  event  featuring a Carnatic  Vocal duet concert by Dr. S. Sunder and Smt. J. B. Keerthana at Puttur.

Kalaimamani, Dr S Sunder is a versatile Carnatic Vocalist and a Physiatrist.  He is the  disciple of the legendary musicians Vid.D.K. Jayaraman and Sri.T.K. Govindarao.  He upholds the classic style of his Guru with depth and clarity.   He is the founder of the Freedim Trust,  an organisation that provides mobility aids and vocational training to persons with disabilities.  He is an excellent  Carnatic musician, musicologist,  physician, teacher and humanitarian exemplifying a rare synthesis of art, scholarship and service.
In an immaculate duet  concert presented by Dr.S.Sunder along with his Senior disciple, well-known musician, Smt.J.B.Keerthana,  at  Mahabala Lalitha kala Sabha , Puttur,  he regaled the audience with his superb classical diction. The sheer gait of rendition of compositions in a majestic tempo, his huge repertoire were resplendent  right from the beginning of the presentation.  Dr. Sunder is known for his profound priority towards aesthetics, melody, devotion, adherence to sahithya bhava  and simplicity of presentation rather than extravagant display of complicated korvais.  True to his principles he took audience to spiritual transcendence.

J.B Keertana Bharadwaj is a highly acclaimed Carnatic vocalist from Chennai who has mastery over the carnatic classical tradition as well as ancient Tamil literature.  She has been a disciple of Dr.Sunder for over two decades.

The ensemble had eminent artists Vid. Ganaraj Karle on violin,    Vid. K. U. Jayachandra Rao on mridangam and  Vid. Sharath Koushik on ghatam, who are much sought-after artists in their respective fields.

The concert began with a composition of  Sri. Purandaradasa,  sharanu siddhi vinayaka, in raga Sourashtra, Mishra chapu tala.  Ninnuvina, an evergreen krithi,  by Sri. Shyama Shastri, in raga Reethigowla, trisra nadai adi,   followed,  attracting  the listeners  by its impressive depth,  bringing out the nuances of the raga beautifully. Ninne nera nammi of Sri Thyagaraja, in Kamavardhini, rupaka carried away the audience through enriching alapana, nerval at  veda shastra puranaadhi with lilting kalpana swaras.
JNNCE ShivamoggaAnanda Natana Prakasham,   in Kedaram, mishrachapu, by Sri.Muthuswamy Dikshithar, a panchalinga kshetra krithi describing the dance of Ananda Nataraja of Chidambaram was absorbing.

Smt. Keerthana,  on her turn was very impressive with the kalpana swara passages, beautiful nerval, alapana in hindola for yare rangana, of Sri.Purandaradasa, her elaboration of  raga  thodi,  in the main presentation,  Sri krishnam bhaja manasa, of Sri. Muthuswamy Dikshithar.

The duo took the concert to resurgent heights in the nerval and swara essays at the famous line Shankha chakra gadha.

Sri Ramachandra kripalu of Sri. Tulasidas  in a reverberating rendering as a ragamalika with ragas behag, Hamsanandhi, Darbari kanada and  dwijavanthi was truly blissful and enthralled the full-house.  Kandena govindana, one more lovely song of Sri. Purandaradasa in raga  Chandrakauns and the concluding stamp,  the masterpiece of the artist, Mythreem bhajatha, followed by Shanthi Niluvavendum conveyed the mood of the concert as rightfully pointed out by Dr. SriPrakash, in  his Vote of thanks.

The exceptional following and beautiful essays during their solo presentations by the  accompanying artists,    Vid. Ganaraj Karle,    Vid. K. U. Jayachandra Rao and  Vid. Sharath Koushik ,  enhanced the  musical apotheosis.
