Due to heavy rainfall in Maharashtra, transport connectivity between Mumbai and Pune has been completely disrupted.
A landslide that occurred early Monday morning in the Bhor Ghat (Khandala Ghat) region has brought both rail and road traffic to a standstill.
According to Central Railway officials, rocks, mud, and trees have fallen onto the railway tracks in the Karjat–Lonavala ghat section due to continuous rain. The incident occurred around 3:05 AM between Thakurwadi–Monkey Hill and Khandala. As a result, train services on the ‘up line’ (Mumbai-bound), ‘down line’ (Pune-bound), and middle tracks were immediately suspended.

Several major trains have been cancelled, including the CSMT–Pune Indrayani Express, Deccan Queen, Deccan Express, Intercity Express, Pragati Express, Dhule Express, and Sinhagad Express. Some long-distance trains have been diverted. Emergency help centers have been set up at CSMT, Thane, Lonavala, and Dadar stations to assist passengers.
Meanwhile, the Pune–Mumbai Expressway has also been affected by the rains. Flood-like conditions have developed in the Maval and Tamhini Ghat regions, and a concrete pillar has collapsed on a connecting road. The recently inaugurated Mumbai–Pune Missing Link tunnel route has been closed for safety reasons.
The Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) and highway police have implemented traffic diversions from 4 AM. Vehicles have been stuck in long traffic jams in the Lonavala ghat section for several hours.
Considering the severity of the situation, the district administration has urged the public to avoid traveling on this route unless absolutely necessary. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has also warned of continued heavy rainfall over the next few days. All government and private schools in Pune district have been declared closed.
