The redeveloped Bantawala Railway Station, completed under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme at an estimated cost of ₹26.18 crore, was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi (PM Modi) through video conferencing on 17 July 2026.
The redevelopment of Bantawala Railway Station is part of Indian Railways’ ambitious initiative to modernise railway stations across the country. Under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme, 15 railway stations in Mysuru Division have been sanctioned for redevelopment at a total cost of ₹339.41 crore to enhance passenger amenities and station infrastructure.
The station has been transformed into a modern, safe, accessible, and passenger-friendly facility with upgraded waiting halls, a modern booking office, improved interiors, enhanced facade, landscaped surroundings, energy-efficient lighting, and aesthetically designed entrance and exit arches.
The circulating area has been expanded from 384 sqm to 9,354 sqm, with separate pick-up and drop-off zones and a dedicated 3,837 sqm parking area for two-wheelers and four-wheelers.
Platform infrastructure has also been significantly improved. The shelter on Platform No. 1 has been expanded from 405 sqm to 3,874 sqm, while Platform No. 2 has been provided with 5,128 sqm of new covered shelter.
Passenger amenities now include larger waiting halls, an Infant Nursing Cubicle, Cafeteria with Kitchen, Lift on the existing Foot Over Bridge, Auto Stand, Wi-Fi connectivity, Coach Guidance Display Boards, and other modern facilities. The station is fully equipped with Divyangjan-friendly amenities, including accessible booking counters, toilets, tactile paths, water booths, reserved parking, and modern passenger information systems.
Public representatives appreciated the redevelopment works. Member of Parliament Captain Brijesh Chowta, MLC Kishore Kumar Boteyadi, former Minister Nagaraj Shetty, former MLAs Rukshmayi Poojary and Padmanabha Kottary, Padma Shri awardee Shri Harekala Hajabba, Amai Mahalinga Naik, Divisional Railway Manager Mudit Mittal, and Senior Divisional Engineer (Gati Shakti) Anand Bharati were present on the occasion.
The Member of Parliament appreciated Indian Railways’ efforts in strengthening railway infrastructure in the region and highlighted major developments, including the complete electrification of the Mangaluru–Bengaluru railway line, ongoing development works at Puttur station, ₹5 crore coach watering facilities, and the Foot Over Bridge at Edamangala.
The redevelopment of Bantawala Railway Station marks another milestone in Indian Railways’ commitment to providing world-class railway infrastructure and enhanced passenger experience under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme.
