Karnataka Renewable Energy Development Limited (KREDL), the nodal agency for the Government of Karnataka focused on promoting and developing renewable energy projects, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the University of South Wales (UNSW) in Australia. This agreement seeks to enhance innovation and support clean and renewable energy technologies start-ups.
The Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) was signed by Professor Colin Grant, Deputy Vice-Chancellor Global University of South Wales (UNSW) Sydney, and K.P. Rudrappaiah, Managing Director of Karnataka Renewable Energy Development Limited (KREDL), representing the Government of Karnataka.
The signing of this MoU between the University of South Wales (UNSW) and KREDL was made possible with the support and facilitation of the Australia India Business Council (AIBC), a key player in enhancing trade and investment relations between Australia and India.

“The signing of this Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between Karnataka and the University of South Wales (UNSW) marks a significant milestone. This partnership is set to foster innovation and incubation for clean and renewable energy technologies and start-ups, thereby enhancing Karnataka’s ties with Australian institutions and opening up new investment opportunities,” stated Energy Minister K.J. George, Government of Karnataka.
“Signing this Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) represents a significant step forward. Under its terms, KREDL will partner with the University of South Wales (UNSW) to build capacity and support new technology start-ups that will accelerate the transition to clean energy. This collaboration aims to create a global ecosystem leveraging Australian expertise in research and innovation, benefiting businesses, government, and citizens in Karnataka,” said Gaurav Gupta I.A.S, Additional Chief Secretary to the Ministry of Energy.
Under the MOU, Karnataka Renewable Energy Development Limited (KREDL) will collaborate with the University of South Wales (UNSW) in Australia to promote innovation and incubation for clean and renewable energy technologies and start-ups.
“Today, on behalf of Karnataka Renewable Energy Development Limited (KREDL), we have signed an MOU with the University of South Wales (UNSW) to promote innovation and incubation for clean and renewable energy technologies and start-ups. Our aim is to leverage new technologies, foster partnerships, and explore investment and commercialization opportunities,” stated K.P. Rudrappaiah, Managing Director of KREDL, during the signing ceremony.
The signing of the MOU is a clear testament to the unwavering commitment of both parties to work together in advancing innovation and incubation for clean and renewable energy technologies and start-ups between Australia and Karnataka.
“This MoU and the collaboration between KREDL and the University of South Wales (UNSW) aim to create a dynamic partnership dedicated to advancing clean and renewable energy infrastructure and services for start-ups,” said Irfan Malik, National Associate Chair and President of the Australia India Business Council, during the MoU signing ceremony.
This MOU commences on the date of signing and will remain in effect for five years unless terminated by either party. It may be extended with the mutual consent of both parties.

Rudrappaiah, Managing Director Karnataka Renewable Energy Development Ltd (KREDL), Prof Vinayak Dixit, (UNSW), Sathish Kumar, Private Secretary to Energy Minister, Govt. of Karnataka, Irfan Malik, Australia India Business Council National Associate Chair & President NSW, and other industry & department senior officials were also present to support this engagement and impactful bilateral initiative.
