Believing that a person who dies due to drowning can be brought back to life by placing the body in salt, the family immersed the child’s body in a heap of salt, leaving only her face uncovered.
Even after shifting the body to the mortuary at the Bagalkot District Hospital, the family continued their efforts. Near the post-mortem room, they kept the child’s body buried in salt and played Quranic prayers on a mobile phone near her ears, hoping for a miracle.
Eyewitnesses at the hospital expressed deep sorrow upon witnessing the scene. The family reportedly continued this practice for over two hours, holding onto hope that the child might revive.
Doctors Intervene
After nearly two hours, doctors present at the hospital counseled the parents and explained the medical reality. Eventually, the family agreed to remove the body from the salt.
The parents later consented to the post-mortem examination, and the salt used in the ritual was discarded. The autopsy is currently being conducted at the Bagalkot District Hospital.
