Students have a crucial role to play in the fight against drug abuse, and staying away from drugs should be everyone’s goal, said DCP (Law and Order) Dr. Harsha Priyamvada.
“Drug addiction is anti-social. ‘ BEDA BRO ’ should be the goal of everyone,” she said.
She was speaking after inaugurating a walkathon organised on Saturday by the Madhava Krupa Ganeshotsava Samiti of the Janajagarana Trust with the message “Say No to Drugs”, aimed at creating awareness among youngsters about the harmful effects of drugs and promoting a healthy, drug-free society.

The walkathon was flagged off near SDM College on JLB Road, where Dr. Priyamvada handed over the national flag to a student. The walkathon culminated at Maharaja Junior College on JLB Road and witnessed the participation of thousands of students.
Holding placards carrying anti-drug messages and raising slogans, the students took part in the walkathon to spread awareness among the public about the dangers of drug abuse.
“Several years ago, I too participated in such walkathons as a student. Such initiatives are very important in building a better society,” Dr. Priyamvada said.
She called upon everyone to join hands in the fight against drug abuse, describing it as a collective social responsibility.
Dr. M. R. Seetharam, founding member of the Swami Vivekananda Youth Movement and noted orthopaedic surgeon, said all forms of addiction could have a devastating impact on families.
Recalling several experiences from his service journey, Dr. Seetharam said that drug abuse and other harmful addictions not only affect individuals but also have serious consequences for their families and society as a whole.
