The Mysuru Division of South Western Railway observed International Level Crossing Awareness Day (ILCAD) – 2026 on June 9, in line with directives issued by the Railway Board, aiming to enhance public awareness on safety at railway level crossings.
Awareness Drive at Level Crossing Gate
As part of the observance, a special awareness programme was conducted at Level Crossing Gate No. 04 between Mysuru and Ashokapuram railway stations at 08:45 hrs.
The programme was led by Divisional Railway Manager Shri Mudit Mittal, along with Additional Divisional Railway Manager Shri Shammas Hameed and other senior officials. The officers inspected the level crossing and interacted with road users, stressing the importance of following safety norms while crossing railway tracks.
“Safety is a Shared Responsibility”
Addressing the gathering, the DRM highlighted that safety at level crossings is a shared responsibility between the Railways and the public.
- He urged road users to:
- Stop, look, and listen before crossing tracks
- Avoid crossing when gates are closed or warning signals are active
- Refrain from rushing across tracks
- Avoid using mobile phones or distractions while crossing
- Follow instructions of gatekeepers and railway staff
- Use only authorized crossings and avoid trespassing
- Pamphlets, Demonstrations, and Street Play
The awareness campaign included distribution of safety pamphlets, interactive sessions with road users, and live demonstrations on safe crossing practices.

A Nukkad Natak (street play) performed by the Scouts and Guides team of South Western Railway effectively conveyed safety messages and encouraged responsible behaviour among the public.
Active Public Participation
The programme saw enthusiastic participation from railway officials, staff, Scouts and Guides volunteers, and members of the public.
Through such initiatives, the Mysuru Division continues to strengthen public awareness and reinforce the importance of safety at railway level crossings.
