A remarkable medical achievement has been witnessed in Medicover Hospital Whitefield , where a 22-year-old woman, who had been struggling with severe leg pain and difficulty in walking for over 12 days, was successfully treated and was able to walk within just two days after surgery.
The young woman had been bedridden due to extreme pain in her left leg and was also experiencing breathing difficulties. After consulting with Dr. Ram Naresh Soudri, a renowned cardiologist at Medicover Hospital in Whitefield, Bengaluru, the cause of her condition was identified.Upon thorough examination and further investigations , Dr. Soudri discovered that her left leg had significant blood clots and the venous flow in left leg was blocked , leading to a complete obstruction of the blood flow in the veins . the clots got embolised to pulmonary circulation because of which it severely affected her lung circulation as well.
A CT angiogram revealed that the woman had extensive thrombosis in left lower limb vein till IVC (inferior venacavae) and saddle thrombus in pulmonary artery .Despite attempts to dissolve the clots with injections, there was no improvement in her condition. DURING THE COURSE IN HOSPITAL ,PATIENT COMPLAINED OF SEVERE PAIN IN LEFT THIGH AND GLUTEAL REGION with impending venous ischemia , a condition that requires urgent intervention. Dr. Soudri recommended a Pulmonary Embolectomy and Venous Thrombectomy (PENUMBRA SYSTEM GUIDED ) procedure to address the issue.
The cause of her condition was later determined to be related to hormonal treatment she had been undergoing and inherent coagulation abnormalities . Dr. Soudri explained that the hormonal therapy had contributed to the formation of blood clots in her veins, which migrated to pulmonary arteries.
The procedure ( minimally invasive -key hole ) involved vascular access from leg , first removing the blood clots from her lungs, followed by the placement of an IVC filter and clearing the blood clots in her leg veins. The surgery was a success, and within just one day, the patient was transferred from the ICU to a regular ward.
Remarkably, the following day, she was able to walk without any issues. and later discharged with anticoagulants. The patient came for followup after 1 week of discharge , her swelling and pain both have come down and she is doing her routine activities without any support.Dr. Ram Naresh Soudri expressed his satisfaction with the outcome, stating that the patient would be able to resume her normal daily activities without any further complications.
This successful treatment is a testament to the advanced medical care and expertise available at Medicover Hospital, bringing relief to patients facing severe health challenges.
